has it ever occurred to you
standing at the edge of the universe
that one more step
you will fall into nothingness

Finding that the space between here and forever
Is something like wearing the wrong outfit
At an important gathering
Everyone staring at you

Well something like this happened to me
Just the other day
Said the wrong thing to the wrong person
Who suggested I stop being so naive

Laughing with the others I sat red faced
Looking at the black hole that was her heart
Which I would have torn apart
Save for being caught in the event horizon of her soul

So much for universal consciousness I said to the mirror
Wondering why I am looking at a reflection
Which has no tolerance for such self indulgence
Not ready for a supernova breakdown of galactic proportions

Back down to earth
Words question intolerance with unquestionable logic
Permutations seldom contemplated save for vehement calculation
Soften the blows which exacerbate insecurity.
