Mountains have names other than the names
given to them by humans.
What doesn't appear on our maps
is communication, how the water
gives and takes in various forms
and is taken by the land
and how the land opens over time
or rises up, or what human bones
add or take away from those mountains.
What is it like to experience prolonged pain
and to lie about it? Everyone knows this,
is given over to the watery workings of pain.
We learn young what we can get
from crying. If it's not enough,
and it rarely is, we do like mountains
(so few can hear mountains crying).
Crumple this map, and ask the mountains their names.
Make an offering of human bones or walk away.
