Busride Sonnet

I saw a boy I knew today. He sat
across from me - the 17 express.
Your face at my horizon line, I wrapped
myself in cool, a metal plate over my chest
but while we smiled hellos, I felt the scratch
of all the tears I thought I’d laid to rest.
Your setting sunlight blazing like a match
behind my cheeks. My blood cells did their best,
but even they could not resist. I can’t
explain this thing where all boys become you -
my heart is a dumb mutt, she gets confused.
