I saw later on that Robert and Mary were right.
Sometimes more ambiguity is better. That old
workshop advice: show, don't tell, don't give
too much away, because what one works out for
oneself is better learnt and longer remembered.
Also it's my habit, in this case bad, to assume
that a word repeated is a sign of inattention.
Of course every poem is about privilege.
Our lives are. We swim in it. I don't mean that
that knowledge should be suppressed, only that
there are other ways of naming it.
