hey gurl

Hey girl
Can I slow dance with you
To the tunes of al green
Spinning verses of love
Round the needle point of my pen
Letting siliquies of poetry trace
Rose petal footprints
Across the lines
Of your note paper styled heart
Hmmm
How do I begin

Smile
Your strut is mean
Laugh
Your touch is silky
Dance
Your kiss is heaven

Nah
that don't fit right

Let me begin again

Moonlit sky casting dark shadows of a lovers embrace across concrete slabs tickled by footprints of past and current lovers strolling down the smooth unshakable path of love's highway

Comforted by the unknowable future entwined together in a journey rarely seen to conclusion because love is never fully experienced just enjoyed
Like supper at your moms table or like the remembrance of your first roller coaster ride

Questions asked but never answered
Can he/she be the one, two, three repeat can she/he be the one, two, three

Can it be
have I found the end of my loveless travels

never realizing that love is merely a feeling a glancing blow that causes no more pleasure no more pain than falling from your bicycle then getting back on it
That's why they say it's as easy as riding a bike

But how often does one fall before getting it right

Damn this poem is getting heavy

Let me start again

Airy strings of loves song embroidered to the patchwork placement of our separate lives creating a quilt of pageantry as we play round robin tournaments of who's heart to hold

Avalanches of emotions crushing lonely days and nights spent from your loves grasp sending you spiraling into a whirlpool of laughter and tears cause love hurts but the pain is too great, too wonderful to let go

And then the record stops the song ends al green is no longer causing my fingertips to hurt but I'm still clutching that pen having said all this yet still searching for the right words simply to tell you

I want you

Not the vision of you
Not the stylized painting with its overly sexed inked lines distorting the refined picturesque line art of you
Not the pastel colored tapestry of you

Just you

That beauty that snores when she sleeps That divine being who's first thought upon waking up is to kiss me full and deep morning breath still clinging to every inch of your mouth rich in its foulness
That very human goddess who would never excuse herself to let go of a little wind to change the forecast of the room whether it be a northern wind or a flurry of southern gusts
That laughable being who can burn boxed mac and cheese and with a straight face call it gourmet

You

Clothed in all your beauty and flaws

So why does my mouth dry up when trying to say these words to you
