i was born inside a rock
far from the eastern rush
of concrete up
beyond the plains, palm flat
silver lake river chain
i was carved out of sky
rubbed chuska smooth
under a wolf moon's icy growl
in the defiance uplift's
sandstone shadow i howled
my new lungs took in dust
of a bloody past, the long walk
my white baby feet
unblistered in a place
where all the doors face east
and spider grandmother sleeps
beautiful
