An infant in whispering sunlight
and damp grass
could be carried off
by a chicken hawk
who was only thinking
of feeding its young.
His red and white striped shirt
offers no protection.
And in the commercial break
between quarters
of the Eagles game
when the parents have
disappeared into the refrigerator
and the telephone
the peril is just the same -
Blue glow, pastoral predators.
