Weather Interference

today i fell in love again
it happened more than once
when you reached over in the dark theater
and softly massaged my neck
sending shivers down to my toes

we stood outside in the cold
you wrapped me inside your jacket
and we held each other close
telling stories of our families
laughing in the wind

i listened to you speak
about your past,
the present,
your hopes and dreams for the future
my face hurt from smiling so hard
as we passed glances to each other and spoke about ourselves

if i had been wearing warmer clothes
i would have come home with you right then
and we could have laid together
exchanging foot massages,
sipping wine,
and watching the TV

but we went our separate ways
thank you global warming
thank you climate change
thank you inconsistent winter temperatures
for bringing an abrupt end to the almost perfect day
